Pocket Cards: Papertrey Ink Challenge

Well, hello there friends!

I know - it has been awhile since we have gotten together to chat here...crazy life!  I have been doing some fun creating though - and want to begin sharing some of it with you. This past week, I was really inspired by the cards that Heather Nichols shared for the Make It Monday Challenge on the Papertrey Ink Blog.  If you would like to check out her tutorial, you can see it HERE.

I ended up making a set of cards to send to my sister for her birthday...she is a busy Mom and I thought it would be nice for her to have a few cards ready for when she needed them.

 These were really fun to make - and super easy. The basic pocket started out as a standard Kraft A2 size card that I trimmed off 1.5" and then stitched up the sides. If you don't want to sew, you could just tape or staple the sides.

Before I created the pockets, I left the cardstock flat and stamped a background - starting with the largest stamps first and then filling in with smaller stamps from the set. Then I made a coordinating card to slip inside the pocket with a sentiment that would apply to whatever my sister needed to use it for.  Here are some close-ups of the cards...it certainly made me look at my stamp sets differently.  I think one of my favorites is this one that I made with the Basic Labels stamp set. You know I typically don't go for the "clean graphic" look...but I really like how this one turned out...a good option for a masculine card.  I will definitely be using this stamp set again when I need to create a quick card for a guy.

I am SO in love with the Strawberry Patch stamps...it could be that they just bring back fun memories of summer and my childhood - but I also think they are just a very fun set of stamps to work with...whether I am making a card - or a scrapbook page.

The final touch was creating a container for the cards. I cut a box using my Silhouette (a design by Lori Whitlock) and added some embossing to the red cardstock with an Impression Plate.  I think it looks elegant and understated (Ok, yes - I know, I don't usually "understate" anything! LOL Hey - it is good to create outside of your comfort zone now and again!)
